ESLoop is a collection of sites relevant to English Language Teaching and Learning on the World-Wide Web. Each site is linked to the next, so that no matter where you start, you will eventually make your way around all the sites and end up back at the beginning. The ESLoop was originally run by a CGI-driven software system kindly donated by Sage Weil of the Webring, until the Webring was sold to Yahoo and began requiring what I felt was too much personal information. Currently, the ESLoop is run by our own software written for this purpose. This software allows a user to skip a site or to get a list of the next 5 sites in the loop. In addition, it makes it so that members will not have to change their code if a site goes down or changes addresses. A list of all sites in the ESLoop is available for viewing. Just pick a site, and on each page, look for the "ESLoop" links. These links will eventually take you around all sites in the 'Loop. Don't worry if a site is down: just click the "Back" button on your browser, and choose the "Skip" or "Next 5" link to go past the downed site.
ESLoop was begun in 1996 as a way to offer teachers and students of English a way to browse the internet for resources specific to English language teaching and learning, and was inspired by the Webring. In fact, until Yahoo bought the Webring and began asking for gender, age, and other personal information, the ESLoop had been a member of the Webring system from the very first. Currently, we use our own autonomous software for Loop functions so that we can make choices about advertising (or not!) and keep personal information private.
The ESLoop was intended to give you a more linear way of browsing, to help with demonstrations, and to form a fun association of those with ESL pages on the web.
ESLoop sites are all relevant to English language teaching and learning in some manner, from student projects and activities to scholarly papers to English for Science and Technology and job opportunities. We hope that you will find ESLoop to be a resource helpful and even fun to navigate.
